Nelson
Mandela was a great man in South Africa. He was born on July 18, 1918.
He was born in a village near Umtata Traseski. As a child Mandela was
the first child to go to school. His father died when he was nine and
then Jongintaba Dalindyebo the chief, became his guardian. He went to
a school near the palace. Then he was initiated when he was 16 and went
to a boarding school called Clarkbury Boarding Institute. He was able
to get his junior certificate in two years, while everyone else was only
able to do it in three. When he was nineteen he went to a college in
Beaufort. This is where he learned he was interested in running and also
boxing. He soon earned his Bachelors of arts degree and Fort Hare University.
This is where he met his life long friend Oliver Tambo. He was involved
in a protest at his university. After that they asked him not to attend
there and he finished school at the University of South Africa, after
his law studies.
