In 1961 Nelson Mandela was involved in a sabotage campaign and a guerrilla war. In 1962 he was finally arrested for leading workers to strike and leaving the country illegally. He was sentenced for seventeen months. But three days later they found him guilty of all crimes to they sentenced him for five years. Mandela was kept in jail for about another twenty years after that because he refused to call for an end to the struggle for the end of apartheid. It reminds us in the United States of our own civil rights struggles and the Jim Crow laws that were in effect here.
