
During World War 1 she became part in the American Red Cross working in navy hospitals. When her husband Franklin Deleano Roosevelt was diagnosed with polio, Eleanor became very active in politics. She also joined many woman's rights groups, like the Woman's Trade Union League. And taught at the Todhunter School, a private school for girls in New York City. Eleanor was very active First Lady during her husband "Franklin's" presidency. She traveled around the nation helping relief efforts and getting information for Franklin. While also exercising her own political influence, she became an advocate for the rights and needs of the poor and the disadvantaged.
