Ariel Sharon- 2004Ariel Sharon, born on 27th of Febuary, 1928 in the name Arik Scheinermann. He was an important man with a lot of strong will and was the prime minister of Israel twice with the Likud, a party he established. In 2005, he left the Likud and started his new way with Kadima.

Political career

Sharon never was a political officer or general. After retiring from his army service, Sharon was the founder of the Likud in July 1973.. From June 1975 to March 1976, Sharon was a special assistant to the late Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. He also had a role in Benjamin Netanyahu's 1996 - 1999 government; he was Minister of National Infrastructure (1996 - 1998), and Foreign Minister (1998 - 1999). When Barak of the Labor party became prime minister, Sharon became the head of the Likud party. After Barak's government fell, he was elected Prime Minister in February 2001. On November 21, 2005, November polls showed Sharon would have been most likely to be returned to the prime ministership.

Sharon peace conferenceEnd of an Era

It is with great sadness that we of GVC05-01 along with all of Israel hear the sad news of Ariel Sharon's stroke. May he find personal peace.

Why is he a hero?

Ariel Sharon, as our prime minister, helped our country to have a peace. He is an important man for Israel. There are many people that believe in him and we do too. He is a lovely human being and one of our favorite and most asmired men in Israel. We hope that others will take up his ideas and continue to try to have peace.
