Franklin D. Roosevelt

The FDR Memorial in Washington

The memorial was started in 1955, ten years after his death. The idea was started that year but the design was not decided on until 1975. The idea was a huge 7.5 acre memorial representing President Roosevelt and the rest of his time. The creator of the memorial was Lawrence Halprin. The memorial is a vast area with waterfalls, statues, and quotes by the president and other important people. It is one of the more beautiful memorials in D.C. and it is described as "a long, meandering path, bordered by walls made of South Dakota granite"
