Franklin D. Roosevelt

The Great Depression

The great depression was when the stock market crashed. This was caused because several big companies that people owned stock in suddenly went bankrupt. People were afraid that their money would be gone if they didn't take it out of the bank and keep it safe at home, but because the stock market crashed, almost all the money banks invested was gone and people were left without any money of their own. Thousands of people were fired from their jobs and no one was hiring. People were evicted from their homes and had to visit soup kitchens because of their lack of money. F.D.R. helped a great deal with getting the country out of the great depression.
